The first symptom of ankyloglossia that is usually noticed is the difficulty a baby will have trying to breastfeed. Mothers will often experience pain because their babies cannot suckle correctly. Instead, the infants will bite and pull in an effort to get the milk. If your baby is having difficulty breastfeeding, an evaluation for tongue-tie should be performed. It is often an underlying cause that can be overlooked.
