Ageusia is not serious, but it can affect a person's quality of life. People who can't taste food may become depressed, lose or gain weight, or develop diabetes or high blood pressure. In addition, ageusia may be a symptom of an underlying condition that could be serious. Talk to your doctor if you have an impaired sense of taste.
