What is burning mouth in women related to?

Burning mouth is a painful condition that some women develop. Its cause is unknown, although researchers think hormonal imbalances, dry mouth, thrush, chronic infections, or allergies might be responsible. Dentists will suggest blood tests to see if a woman's blood and sugar count is normal, along with checking her levels of iron, ferritin, folic acid, and vitamin B12 as well as her thyroid function.

There are some factors specific to women's health that potentially relate to burning mouth syndrome. This includes iron deficiency, or anemia, which can be a problem for women. Menopause, thyroid disease and hormonal deficiencies can also be factors.
