Can tinnitus be prevented?

Because there are so many causes of tinnitus, it is impossible to protect yourself against the disorder. Since many of the causes are physiological, there is really nothing you can do to keep yourself from getting the disorder. But you can protect your ears to avoid one common cause of tinnitus - loud noises, and more commonly, persistent loud noises. Using noise protection over your ears and carefully monitoring the amount of time you spend using music headphones can help you avoid the disorder. Simply living a healthy lifestyle, like eating healthy foods and exercising, can also lower your risk.
