Who should not take levothyroxine?

Levothyroxine is not intended to be used for weight loss and can be particularly dangerous when combined with appetite-suppressant drugs. People without low thyroid hormone problems should not use levothyroxine for weight loss or to treat infertility. People with thyrotoxicosis (overactive thyroid function), thyroid hormone hypersensitivity or untreated problems with the adrenal glands, should not take levothyroxine. People with certain thyroid diseases should not use levothyroxine if their thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels are already low. People who have recently had a heart attack and people with allergies to any of the ingredients in levothyroxine should not take the medication.
