Although most thyroid cysts are not serious, you should talk to your doctor about your symptoms. Your doctor will probably want to conduct some simple tests to rule out more serious conditions, such as cancer. Also, if the thyroid cyst has grown large enough to interfere with other structures in the neck, you will definitely want to discuss the situation with your doctor, since you might develop swallowing or breathing problems as a result.
