Therapeutic touch is a secular form of energy healing in which a practitioner channels energy to help the healing process in another person. Despite its name, the practice may not involve touching; the practitioner's hands usually move over the patient's body at a distance of several inches, in an effort to affect energy fields. Therapeutic touch is practiced widely by nurses. Other energy therapies include Reiki and polarity therapy. All involve a healing intent on the part of the practitioner who seeks to affect a person's energy field.
