How can posture cause health problems?

Although many people think good posture is simply standing up straight, it involves much more than the spine -- head, neck, shoulders and knees also play important roles. Correct posture is important when standing, sitting, moving and lifting.

Poor posture can lead to a range of health problems, including headaches, fatigue, tight or sore neck muscles and tension or pain in the upper and lower body. In addition, poor posture tends to drain the entire body of energy.

Stooping or slouching forces the muscles and ligaments to struggle to maintain the body’s balance. This leads to worsening tension, pain and fatigue. Over the long term, this muscle tension and imbalance can affect the spine, hips, shoulders, knees and even the feet.
