Depression is a complex illness of the brain that can't just be shaken off. Some people mistakenly believe that the disorder can be overcome simply by thinking more positively or looking at life in a different way. But depression affects areas of the brain that control mood and behavior, and as with other diseases, it needs to be treated to get better.
