Should I drink green tea or white tea?

Green tea is made only from the leaves of the Camillia sinensis plant. White tea is derived from the fine silvery-white hairs of the delicate unopened buds and younger leaves of the same plant, the Camellia sinensis. These silvery white hairs give the tea its whitish color. Both green and white teas come from the same plant and share many of the same chemical properties and health benefits. Many of the chemical differences are due to the different strains of the Camillia sinensis plant and the preparation process. At this point in time, there have been more studies on the health benefits of green tea than white tea. Many of these studies on both green and white tea have shown beneficial effects of drinking tea in regard to cardiovascular disease, cancer prevention, and bolstering the immune system. Tea that is caffeinated may increase one's alertness and could increase your metabolism. These studies are in the early stages and are not conclusive. Choosing between green and white tea should depend on your preferences. There aren't any documented health benefits for one tea over the other. One must use precaution when drinking larger amounts of tea. There may be an interaction with many of the medicines one might be taking such as Coumadin, daily baby aspirin, birth control pills, psychiatric medicines, asthma pills and more. Always speak with your physician when making any significant change to your daily routine.
