Is delirium tremens serious?

Delirium tremens is a very serious condition that should not be ignored. People with the condition should be treated in a hospital immediately. With the proper medical attention, delirium tremens does not have to be fatal, but if not treated properly could be deadly. In addition to the immediate medical needs, many serious complications like pancreatitis, pneumonia, and Wernicke's encephalopathy can develop.
