What causes trichomoniasis?

Trichomoniasis is caused by the protozoan trichomonas vaginalis. It is a sexually transmitted disease (STD) and is one of the most common causes of vaginal complaints in young women. It can cause abnormal vaginal discharge and vaginal discomfort.
