What areas of the body can be affected by chlamydia?

In men, chlamydia can infect the urethra, which may cause discharge from the tip of the penis. In women, the urethra or cervix may be infected, which may not cause symptoms or may lead to vaginal discharge and painful urination. Both men and women can develop chlamydia in the rectum through anal sex. Chlamydia may also develop in the eyes, but this is more common among newborn babies who are infected by their mothers during birth.
