What is considered a common sports injury?

Some of the most common sports injuries that specialists see include meniscal tears, muscular sprains and ligament injuries like anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries or medial collateral ligaments. These are mostly problems with the knee and the ankle. In the upper extremities, people who play baseball and tennis commonly experience shoulder and elbow injuries. It may make sense to see a specialist if you have injured yourself while playing sports.

One of the most common sports injuries are often ankle injuries or sprains, says Ian Whitney, MD, of Metropolitan Methodist Hospital. In this video, he discusses other common sports injuries.
