How do steroid injections affect tennis elbow?

While the injection of a steroid such as cortisone can have an anti-inflammatory effect on tennis elbow, doctors don't all agree on whether it's a good idea. The problem is that even though a cortisone injection can give you dramatic and quick relief of symptoms, it may keep you from slowing down and stopping the aggravating activity. If the condition becomes more chronic, a patient might want to seek multiple injections, which could cause weakening and damage to the tendon and possibly the bone as well.
