What is the idea behind rituals?

Rituals have long been used to help people move through transitions (birth, death, and coming of age). Rituals bind us to the community and support us through change. Until now, in our culture, menopause has been taboo. This is changing. Now, we are talking about it, and some women are beginning to create rituals for menopause.

The idea behind these rituals is to recognize where we have been and where we are going, to celebrate womanhood, to renew our bonds, and to discover meaning and purpose. As the idea catches on in the United States, we may see these rituals become mainstream. The goal is to join other cultures in paying homage to wisdom and new beginnings.
