Are partial spinal cord injuries serious?

Dr. Jeanne Morrison, PhD
Family Practitioner

Partial spinal cord injuries are a serious condition that can cause permanent loss of sensation and/or movement. They are so serious that if any damage to the spinal cord is suspected, then immediate medical treatment is recommended. In some cases, the appearance of symptoms do not occur until after the incident, when there is swelling or bleeding in the spine. People with possible spinal cord injuries should not be moved and need to be immobilized by trained medical professionals.
