Do sodium metabolism disorders run in families?

Sodium metabolism disorders are not inherited illnesses, although sometimes the underlying causes of these disorders - such as cancer or diabetes - have genetic underpinnings. Sodium metabolism disorders are the result of an imbalance of sodium in the blood, leading to disorientation, stupor, twitching, seizures, comas, and sometimes death. Once sodium concentrations are restored to normal, there are rarely permanent effects of this disorder.
