What reactive drill can help a soccer forward learn to burst out of a jog?

The ability to see an opening and make a quick break can give your team a fast break on the field.  One drill that can help you train your acceleration out of a jog is tennis ball fetch.  To prepare for this drill, you will need a partner and several tennis balls.  Your partner should stand about 10 meters from you.  Begin to jog toward your partner who will  throw a tennis ball randomly.  As soon as you see the tennis ball, break into a sprint toward it. As you are chasing the ball your partner will move to a different location.  Once your have recovered the ball, jog toward your partner who will once again throw the ball for you to chase down.  Continue this drill for an extended period of time.  When breaking for the ball, be sure to move your body closer to the ground for greater stability and get your arms pumping.
