What lifestyle factors lead to a lack of sleep?

Many lifestyle factors have contributed to a lack of sufficient sleep among Americans, including longer work hours (both at the office and remotely from home), family obligations and excessive use of electronic devices such as tablets and smartphones. Disruptions in sleep patterns also have been linked to the national obesity epidemic. Obesity is a risk factor for sleep disorders such as sleep apnea. Stress also causes sleep disruptions.

Many lifestyle factors have fueled a lack of sufficient sleep among Americans, including longer work hours (both at the office and remotely from home), family obligations and too much dependence on electronic devices such as tablets and smartphones. The disruption in sleep patterns has also been linked to the national obesity epidemic.

Most surveys show American adults are not getting adequate rest based on guidelines from the National Sleep Foundation guidelines and the National Institutes of Health.
