How do microdermabrasion treatments and chemical peels work?

During a microdermabrasion treatment, a special machine is used to remove the outermost layer of skin cells. Some machines use tiny crystals and others have diamond-encrusted wands. Then, a vacuum applied over the skin sucks away the dead cells, revealing a brighter, smoother complexion. Chemical peels generally entail a solution of concentrated glycolic or salicylic acid that is applied to the skin. Other peels are available that can go deeper. Your skin will be pink for several hours following such a treatment, but then will glow for days.
