Although very rare, scar tissue from burns may develop into cancer. Several sources cite burn scar carcinoma from a Marjolin's ulcer. Thermal burns may develop into these Marjolin's ulcers with malignant transformation. In fact, these ulcers may develop from chronic wounds, chronic venous ulcers, burn scars, pressure sores, osteomylelitis, radiation scars, and urinary fistulas.
