What are the treatment options for hidradenitis suppurativa (HS)?

Early treatment is crucial for managing hidradenitis suppurativa.

Sometimes, mild cases are managed well with a simple at-home skin cleaning regimen.

Your doctor may prescribe medicine for moderate cases of hidradenitis suppurativa. These medicines, which include antibiotics, oral retinoids, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories, and immunosuppresants, are either taken orally or applied topically.

Surgery may be performed in severe cases to drain abscesses, or to cut out parts of the skin and replace them with skin grafts.
