What should I know about pityriasis versicolor?

Dr. Mehmet Oz, MD
Cardiology (Cardiovascular Disease)
Pityriasis versicolor occurs when yeast normally present on your skin grows out of control. People of all skin colors can get this fungal infection, but teens and young adults are more likely to get pityriasis versicolor because their skin can be more oily.

Proper skin care is important to keep your skin clean and clear of dirt and oils. It is also important to keep bacteria and fungus from spreading. If you have pityriasis versicolor, you should practice good hygiene on a regular basis. Gently wash your skin and stop using skin care products that are oily. Also, good skin care always includes protecting your skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays from the sun.

If you have any questions about good skin care with pityriasis versicolor, talk to your dermatologist.
