Pityriasis rosea, which is also known as the Christmas tree rash because of its appearance, typically begins with a large reddish or pink scaly, itchy patch of skin somewhere on the torso or, sometimes, on the arms and legs. The main large patch is usually then followed by several similar, but smaller, patches.
