What causes skin injuries?

In most cases, skin injuries are caused by an accident. Burns are generally caused by coming into contact with high temperatures. Fire, hot objects or liquids, electricity, radiation, and sunlight can also burn exposed skin. Scrapes and cuts are other common types of skin injuries, generally caused by accidents, that may leave scars. Skin injuries may also occur when someone scratches or picks at the rashes or lesions that have developed as a result of an infection or disease, such as chicken pox.
