What are the symptoms of polymorphous light eruption?

Dr. Mehmet Oz, MD
Cardiology (Cardiovascular Disease)
Symptoms of polymorphous light eruption include pimples, blisters, or scaly skin caused by being out in the sun. Some people who are sensitive to the sun can develop these rash-like symptoms within a few days after exposure to sunlight.

Polymorphous light eruption (also known as polymorphic light reaction) is a fancy name for a fairly common condition. For many people this reaction will lessen over time, but your doctor can prescribe medication or other treatments if it is bothersome or persists. One of the best ways to help prevent these symptoms is to use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher whenever you are in the sun. Reapply it frequently and wear clothing and hats with UV protection built in.
