Why might hidradenitis suppurativa cause an unpleasant odor?

Sometimes, people with hidradenitis have skin lesions that emit an unpleasant odor. When glands are blocked, bacterial infections can develop and lead to lesions. The lesions are filled with pus. When the lesion breaks open, pus drains from the wound and causes the odor.
