You cannot prevent seborrheic dermatitis—known as dandruff when it occurs in adults—but you can manage flares. Seborrheic dermatitis tends to run in families, and people with this condition have it for life. However, seborrheic dermatitis comes and goes, and there are ways to reduce its severity during a flare. Oily skin makes seborrheic dermatitis more likely to appear, so wash frequently and shampoo your hair daily. Using a dandruff regularly is the most common way to control the condition. You made need to alternate dandruff shampoos for the best results.

Skip lotions that contain alcohol. Stress and fatigue can trigger seborrheic dermatitis, so it can help your skin to take good care of yourself in general.
