Can hives be prevented?

Dr. Mehmet Oz, MD
Cardiology (Cardiovascular Disease)
One of the best ways to help prevent hives is to avoid the food or medications that are known to cause your allergic reaction. To help with this, it may be useful to keep a diary of known allergens or have an allergy test performed by a physician to identify the cause.

The best way to prevent hives is to try and avoid whatever causes them. If you have had an allergic reaction to something in the past, try to limit your exposure to it as much as possible. Talk to your doctor about other ways to prevent hives.
