Are there alternative treatments for pityriasis rosea?

Alternative treatments for pityriasis rosea include anything that will help control the itching. Oatmeal baths or bathing in warm (not hot, not cold) water may help. Be careful of what kind of soap you use, or use no soap at all. Some lotions, like calamine or zinc oxide cream, may help, too.

If you consider oatmeal baths an alternative treatment, then that is definitely an option. Just don’t bring a spoon into the tub with you! Bathing in lukewarm water instead of scalding hot or freezing cold water or using calamine lotion on the rash can also help.

Light therapy has been used to reduce the duration of the symptoms of pityriasis rosea, however there are potential side effects to consider before using it.
