Merkel cell carcinoma has a pretty high recurrence rate. The recurrence rate means how likely it is for the cancer to come back after treatment. In general, Merkel cell carcinoma recurs in about 50% of people who've had the disease. It's more likely to come back if the cancer has already started to spread by the time it's treated.
