Is Kaposi sarcoma serious?

Kaposi sarcoma may be serious, depending on how aggressive each individual case is. Many people will develop only a few lesions on their skin and won't have any other symptoms after treatment. If Kaposi sarcoma develops on certain internal organs, such as the lungs and digestive tract, more serious complications can occur. For people who develop Kaposi sarcoma as a result of a weakened immune system (often caused by AIDS or organ transplants), the combination of Kaposi sarcoma and their original immune condition may result in very serious medical complications. Because of the risk of complications, it's important for you to talk to your doctor if you notice any symptoms of Kaposi sarcoma so you can get treatment right away.
