Skin cancer doesn't usually affect your body's ability to fight illnesses. In some cases, if skin cancer spreads to the lymph nodes, it may weaken your immune system. Skin cancer also may indirectly affect your body's response to illness because certain treatments may weaken the immune system and cause illnesses to have a more severe effect.
