What is branding?

Branding means using a hot object to burn the skin in a shape or design, leaving a permanent scar. The scar is known as a keloid. Scarification is a similar process, but the skin is cut instead of burned to form the scar. Branding is more popular with some people than a tattoo because of the raised appearance. Branding and scarification are risky because the shape and appearance of the scar cannot be guaranteed.
