How should I manage an atypical mole?

There is usually no special care needed for managing an atypical mole. However, there are steps you can take to prevent more atypical moles from growing on your skin. Avoid exposure to the sun when possible, and stay out of direct sunlight from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 30 or higher. Wear wide-brimmed hats and protective clothing when you go outdoors. If you have atypical moles, see a doctor for regular skin exams.
