How do other illnesses affect sinusitis?

Other illnesses such as allergies, nasal tumors, or infected or enlarged adenoids have a greater affect on people with sinusitis because they block a person's nasal passages, causing the person to have additional breathing problems. These illnesses can also cause the sinus cavity to become even more inflamed and infected than usual. Complications with conditions such as gastroesophageal reflux (GERD), cystic fibrosis (CF), and immune system disorders may sometimes cause additional blockage of the sinus cavity resulting in a higher risk for infection in people with sinusitis.
