What is a female sexual response?

Female sexual response is a cycle of four phases that a woman experiences when having sexual relations. These phases include:
  •  Desire -- a woman wants to have sex.
  •  Excitement -- physical changes include increased blood flow to the pelvis, vaginal lubrication and swelling of the external genitalia. Other signs of arousal in women may include darkening of the vaginal lips, hardening and enlarged appearance of the clitoris and swelling of the breasts while nipples become more erect.
  •  Orgasm -- a peaking of sexual pleasure, release of sexual tension and rhythmic contraction of vaginal muscles, the wall of the outer third of the vagina and the anal sphincter.
  •  Resolution -- A feeling of relaxation and elation. Unlike men, women may be able to respond to genital stimulation again right away.
