What is sertraline HCI?

Sertraline HCl, better known by the brand name Zoloft, is used to treat major depressive disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, premenstrual dysphoric disorder, and social anxiety disorder. Sertraline HCl works by increasing the level of serotonin, a chemical in the brain that elevates mood. Dosing varies depending on your condition, but it is typically taken one to two times a day. The time that it takes for sertraline HCl to build up in your body to be effective varies also depending on your condition. Sertraline HCl is in the therapeutic class of antidepressant medication and is classified as serotonin reuptake inhibitor. It is available in tablets or as an oral medication.
