Who should not take sertraline HCI?

Medical supervision and caution should be provided to giving sertraline HCI to adolescents due to the increased risk of suicide. This drug should not be given to children.  If you are pregnant, you should weigh the risks and benefits of taking sertraline HCI, as antidepressants are known to cause serious, life-threatening lung problems in babies who are born to mothers taking them.

It is unknown if sertraline HCI transfers to babies via breast milk.  This drug may also complicate certain medical conditions, including bleeding conditions, purpura, seizure disorders, bipolar disorder, hyponatremia, metabolism conditions, blood circulation conditions, heart disease or heart attack, liver or kidney disease, mania, or a history of drug abuse.
