In a study on retirement attitudes by The Met Life Mature Market Institute and the Scripps Gerontology Center, those who were confident that they would be comfortable in their retirement usually had a guaranteed stream of income and adequate savings.

While the researchers found that preparing for retirement varies from individual to individual, planning ahead and considering the possibilities of unforeseen issues (loss of job, catastrophic illness or disability) can add to security. Even a simple contingency plan framework can be very helpful.
