What side effects does Zolpidem (Ambien) cause?

One of the most concerning side effects of zolpidem (Ambien) and other sleep medications is continued drowsiness the next morning.  A recent FDA review showed that 8 hours after taking 10mg of Ambien, 15% of women still had blood levels of Ambien that would impair their driving.  

Many medications can prolong the effects of Ambien, so be especially cautious when mixing it with other sedatives, pain medications, antihistaimes, and alcohol.
