Sedatives and hypnotics reduce anxiety, create a feeling of well-being, and lower your inhibitions. They also slow the pulse, breathing rate, and blood pressure. At higher doses, these drugs can cause poor concentration, fatigue, confusion, impaired coordination, and memory and judgment problems.
