Is Ambien CR addictive?

When taken as prescribed by a doctor, Ambien CR (zolpidem tartrate extended-release) has been proven safe for treating insomnia. It is possible, however, for some sleep-related medications to become habit-forming. People with previous addictions on drugs or alcohol may become dependent on Ambien CR if they are not watched closely by a doctor. There have been reports of withdrawal symptoms in people who have stopped taking Ambien CR suddenly.
