How does ramelteon work to treat my sleep problems?

Ramelteon is used to treat a type of insomnia called sleep-onset insomnia, in which a person has difficulty falling asleep. Ramelteon is part of a group of medicines called melatonin receptor agonists. Melatonin is a substance produced by the brain that's believed to help signal the body that it's time to go to sleep. Ramelteon attaches to the same receptors that melatonin does. This action may help you fall asleep more quickly.
