What causes infantile scoliosis?

The cause of infantile scoliosis is usually undetermined, so the disorder is also known as infantile idiopathic scoliosis. Idiopathic means "occurring from unknown causes." Some research points to pressure of the uterine walls on the body of the developing fetus as a possible cause. Heredity is a possible cause. The condition also may develop when a baby is placed on its back for a long time.
