What are the complications of sciatica?

Although sciatica is usually not serious, occasionally complications may arise. In some cases, permanent nerve damage can occur. Depending on what caused the nerve compression, other complications, like losing feeling or movement in the leg where the sciatica is occurring, can also develop. In some cases, people may even lose bladder or bowel function.
