Mark Moronell, MD
Cardiology (Cardiovascular Disease)
The schizophrenic spectrum includes several disorders related to schizophrenia. They include:

• Schizophrenia and its subtypes
• Schizotypal personality disorder
• Schizoid personality disorder

Mental illnesses that are part of the schizophrenic spectrum share several qualities. People with these disorders tend to have major trouble maintaining relationships with others. They also lack a range of normal human emotions. However, the three disorders are very distinct. People with schizophrenia experience frequent psychotic symptoms, not usually found in the two personality disorders. People with schizotypal personality disorder often have paranoid and magical thoughts, unlike schizoid personality disorder. People with schizotypal personality disorder can maintain somewhat normal conversations with people. Yet, they still avoid social contact and display odd behaviors.
