Can catatonic schizophrenia be prevented?

Although you can't prevent catatonic schizophrenia, there are a few steps that you can take to prevent symptom outbreaks. Follow your doctor' s orders in terms of treatment. Take your medications, go to your therapy sessions, and stay for recommended hospitalization. Following your treatment plan is the best way to prevent symptoms of catatonic schizophrenia. Second, you can closely monitor your disease, inform friends, family members, and your doctor if you think you are going to have an outbreak. Third, stay away from substances that could make the disorder worse. For instance, you should be sure to stay away from drugs that are not prescribed to you, as well as alcohol.  You may be able to prevent many symptoms of schizophrenia if they are caught in early childhood.
