Can severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) be prevented?

Vaccines are being developed should the SARS virus reemerge. Other ways to reduce the risk of contracting severe acute respiratory syndrome should an outbreak occur include frequent hand-washing and wearing an approved respirator (face mask). The necessity of these preventative measures, however, currently remains low due to the lack of a SARS outbreak.
